The short version
Some of the links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, we may earn a small commission — at no extra cost to you. You pay exactly what you would have paid anyway.
That commission never decides what we recommend. We include things because we think they are good. If something is not good, it does not appear here, commission or no commission.
How affiliate links work
An affiliate link carries a tag that tells the retailer we sent you. If you buy within a set window after clicking — usually somewhere between 24 hours and 30 days, depending on the retailer — we receive a percentage of the sale.
You do not pay more. The commission comes out of the retailer's margin, not your pocket.
Where you will see them
- In the little shop, where most product links are affiliate links.
- Within journal entries and gift guides, where we link to a specific item.
- Occasionally in our email letter, always marked.
Any page or post containing affiliate links carries a note saying so, at the top, before the links appear.
Programmes we take part in
Edit this list so it names the programmes you actually join, and delete the Amazon paragraph below if you do not join Amazon Associates.
As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.
We may also take part in affiliate programmes run by other retailers and brands whose products suit this site. Where we do, the same rule applies: we only link to things we would choose ourselves.
Gifted items and sponsored content
Occasionally a brand sends us something at no charge. If we write about it, we say clearly that it was gifted. Being sent something does not guarantee it gets written about, and it does not buy a favourable opinion.
If a post is paid for, it is labelled as an advertisement or paid partnership at the top. We keep this rare.
Our own money
Most of what you see here we bought ourselves, with our own money, before any thought of writing about it. That is rather the point.
Prices and availability
Prices change and things sell out. Anything we quote was correct when we wrote it, but the retailer's own page is always the authority. We are not responsible for what happens after you leave this site — your purchase is between you and the retailer, under their terms.
