Template — review before launch. Not legal advice. This describes the site exactly as it is built today: no analytics, no tracking, and no newsletter connected. It must be updated the moment you add any of those. Replace every [bracketed] item with your real details.
Who we are
This site is Elsea Moon, run by [YOUR NAME OR BUSINESS NAME] in [YOUR COUNTRY]. If you want to reach us about anything on this page, email [email protected].
The short version
We collect as little as possible. We do not sell your data, we do not run advertising networks, and we do not track you around the internet. The longer version follows.
What we collect
When you email us
We receive your email address and whatever you choose to write. We keep it so we can reply and refer back to the conversation. We do not add you to any list on the strength of an email.
When you join our letter
[UPDATE WHEN CONNECTED. The newsletter is not yet connected to any provider, so no addresses are being collected. When you connect one, name it here, link its privacy policy, and say what it stores.] If you subscribe, we store your email address for the purpose of sending the letter. You can unsubscribe from any email we send, and we delete your address when you do.
Server logs
This site is hosted on [YOUR HOST, e.g. GitHub Pages], whose servers keep standard access logs — IP address, browser type, pages requested, timestamps. These are created by the host, not by us, and we do not use them to build any profile of you. See your host's own privacy documentation for how long they keep them.
Analytics
We do not currently run any analytics on this site. [IF YOU ADD ANALYTICS, name the provider here, say whether it uses cookies, link its privacy policy, and add a cookie banner if the provider requires consent in your jurisdiction. A privacy-first provider that does not set cookies, such as Plausible or Fathom, keeps this section simple.]
Cookies
This site sets no cookies of its own. We use no cookie banner because there is nothing to consent to.
However — if you click an affiliate link and go through to a retailer, that retailer will usually set a cookie of their own to record that we referred you. That cookie is theirs, set on their site, under their policy, and we cannot see it or read it. Our affiliate disclosure explains how those links work. You can block or clear these cookies in your browser settings at any time.
Who we share with
Nobody, except the service providers that make the site work — our host, and our email provider. We do not sell, rent, or trade personal data. We would hand something over if the law genuinely required it, and not otherwise.
How long we keep things
- Emails you send us: as long as the conversation is useful, then deleted.
- Newsletter subscriptions: until you unsubscribe.
- Host access logs: controlled by the host, typically a short window.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live — and this certainly applies in the UK, the EU under the GDPR, and California under the CCPA — you have the right to ask us to:
- tell you what personal data of yours we hold;
- give you a copy of it;
- correct it if it is wrong;
- delete it;
- stop using it for a particular purpose.
To do any of these, email [email protected]. We will respond within a month. Given how little we hold, this is usually a short conversation.
[IF YOU ARE IN THE UK OR EU: add your supervisory authority here — for the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office — and note that visitors may complain to it.]
Children
This site is written for parents and other adults. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect any personal data from a child. If you believe a child has sent us something, email us and we will delete it.
Links out
We link to other sites — retailers, makers, and the occasional article. Once you leave here you are under their privacy policy, not ours. We choose who we link to carefully, but we do not control what they do.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS. We hold very little data, which is the most effective security measure available to us. No site can promise perfect security, and we will not pretend otherwise.
Changes to this policy
If we change how any of this works — adding analytics, connecting a newsletter — we will update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes will be noted on the site.
